Easy Ideas to Promote Your Web Site
If you have or are planning to have a Web site for your business, you should understand and get comfortable with the idea that in order for a Web site to
really work, you'll need to do some ongoing work.
A Web site needs to be promoted. It isn't going to do you any good to just let it sit there and wait for the traffic to flow through. That won't happen unless you do something - tell others
about it. Fortunately, there are lots of things you can do to spread the word about your Web site.
As a busy entrepreneur, I understand that you may be pretty busy to take on work in an area that you may not even be comfortable with. The good news is, there are quite a few simple things
you can do to promote your Web site.
Here's my list of the easiest things you can do that really work:
- Update your message manager to tell others about your Web site and encourage them to visit. My message manager includes "visit us online at www.amandamarks.com..." besides stating
that the caller has reached AmandaMarks Business Solutions and we specialize in Web development. It's a great way to make sure everyone calling you for business matters knows about your
Web site, and it takes a minute or two to set this one in motion!
- Invest in some magnetic letters and put your Web address on the side or back of your company vehicle. A friend of mine had her Web address installed in large white letters along the side
of her black company truck - she runs a landscaping operation and has found this to be very effective. The best news is it's extremly cost effective - around $50.00.
- Get your business cards reprinted with your Web site address on them. If you have a lot of cards and can't stand the idea of throwing them away, purchase some small address labels (Avery 08167 for Ink Jet works well), print your Web address
on them and stick to the back of your cards. This is especially effective if your card is white but not so great if you use an up-scale colored card.
- Make sure your Web address is printed on all your other promotional material, including brochures, rack cards, pens, note pads and anything else you might use.
- It should also be printed on all your office stationary including letterhead, envelopes, invoices and receipts.
- Here's a big one, but not so difficult to do: start thinking of your online marketing (your Web site) and your traditional marketing (print) as working together. It amazes me how many smart business people seem to miss this one. I still find tons
of newspaper and magaznine ads that have one very important piece of information missing - the Web site address. Think about it - traditional advertising is limited but still pretty expensive. Use your
Web site to give your potential clients all the information they could ever want, and make sure you point them to this information in all your print ads.
- If your Web site is brand new do a grand opening announcement and send it to all your existing clients and potential clients. I have a very valuable marketing database of all my contacts that I use for this, and my
most important announcements go to my valued clients and my best leads. I don't normally waste my time doing mass mailings.
- Get your Web address embroidered on your company apparel or uniforms.
- If you have a storefront or office make sure your Web address is visible on your front door, windows or your store counter.
- Retail operations can have their Web address printed on their shopping bags or gift boxes.
- Outdoor or tourism operations such as landscapers and outfitters can invest in baseball caps and have their Web address printed on the bib.
There are actually countless ways to spread the word about your Web site, and it's your ongoing efforts that will help get real results over time. If you have any suggestions to add to this list
feel free to let us know about them, and we'll keep adding ideas as well. Good luck with your promotions!
